Student Threat Assessment One-Day Workshop

In light of the Sandy Hook shooting, the Association of School Psychologists of Pennsylvania is presenting a workshop by Dr. Dewey Cornell, entitled: Student Threat Assessment on Thursday, October 24th at the Ramada Inn and Conference Center In State College, PA.

Dr. Cornell will begin by examining school safety trends and policy trends, will cover the rationale for threat assessment and explain how threat assessment differs from criminal profiling and zero tolerance approaches to violence prevention. He will describe the appropriate roles of team members in conducting a threat assessment using the Virginia Student Threat Assessment Guidelines. He will review a series of controlled studies of threat assessment as well as present a variety of case examples. There will also be attention to the role of bullying in student threats and strategies for reducing bullying. By the conclusion of the workshop, participants will understand the basic principles and practical steps for conducting student threat assessments.
