    Hi Everyone!

The topic came up recently about school social workers and home and school visitors going on home visits. What are your district's expectations? What safety measures are put in place as you go into student homes? Are there any other precautions that are in place to protect you in your role? Are there ways that you feel you are more at risk as you carry out your job duties?

Our district has been in-person for 56 school days, with 1/3 learners electing to learn from home with online option, so we have reduced numbers in our buildings. We are doing home visits. We very occasionally transport since district busing is transporting, and utilize school vans to better distance when we can. My co-worker purchased plexiglass like you might use in Uber to separate front and back seat. I worry more about inadvertently infecting children and families who may be at risk or not have good medical coverage should they get sick than I worry about myself. Our district is small, and utilizing prescribed precautions seems to be working well for us, with few positive cases, and those there are seeming to be largely transmitted outside of the school setting.

Thanks Meredith! Remind me what district you are in? You mentioned your coworker bought plexi glass? Did offer any additional protections or to purchase the plexi glass?

We at first were told we would have to transport students if we could not reach parents, but that has since changed.

    Hello everyone,

I am new to this forum and I am glad I have found you as a resource as often in our job can be isolated. I am also making home visits I will always ask the family for the permission if they are ok with me entering. I also received my vaccine therefore I am feeling more confident. Prior to the vaccine I had been making porch visits to the home to be safer. The expectation of the school district continues to be same, but I have been able to share my concerns with my direct supervisor in admin, and thus far I am supported.
